SECOND GENERATION

2. Everett Encel Compton was born on 5 Nov 1911 in Millikin, LA. He died on 25 Mar 1971 in Dermott, AR. Compton, Everett Encel B001

1911: Born November 5, Millikin, Louisiana.

1937: Started dating Mabel Lois DeBlieux. Lois says, "He was living in a trailer and had his meals in the house with the DeBlieuxs. He was coming out with Roy Whitaker who owned the place and piddling around farming." They went together for 4 years.

1942: Married Mabel Lois DeBlieux, January 24, at Bastrop, La. The marriage was blessed on June 3 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Dermott, Arkansas, several years later.

They moved to New Orleans where he worked in the ship yards and owned a bar for awhile; then to Oklahoma where he did construction work; finally back to Dermott, Ark.

1971: Died at Dermott on March 25; buried in Dermott, Arkansas.

About Everett, his brother Earl remembered in 1983: "He was a fun loving guy, hard to pin down, but he liked to have fun." Connie, Earl's wife, added, "He could sit and watch TV cartoons and have more fun than the kids, but he was irresponsible. When he was working he worked hard, but he wasn't too anxious to hunt a job." Roy said, "He would make a weld that would hold anything." Earl got Roy to give him materials and had Everett to make a trellis for roses--which he still used in 1983. About the Compton's, Connie added: "Every Compton I've ever seen was stubborn."

About Everett, Lois remembered in 1983: "He was quite a character. He always had a sense of humor. He could fly off the handle, but he got over it quick. He always thought he was going to make a fortune. He always had a scheme. Had he ever made one, he'd a' give it away....He always thought all you kids did was all right. He would rock and play with you--after I bathed and dressed y'all. You girls could get away with anything with Everett. Y'all could get anything you wanted out of him. He would cover for you. When Anita started smoking he covered up for her."

He was married to Mabel Lois DeBlieux on 24 Jan 1942 in Bastrop, LA.
