I am a descendant of Elijah and Sarah Kennison Brown. Their son, Wash F. Brown,
married Eliza Davenport and after her death, reared a family with a black woman,
Melinda Jones--I descend from their union. Melinda and Wash's children were born
circa 1860- until 1870, and their relationship apparently lasted until his death
in 1872. For some reason his death is published far and wide as 1862--however
he was alive and well on the census of 1870.
I would love to have any information you might have on Elijah's date/place of
birth, parents and sibs---I've never seen anything that proves any of those people
or events. Was Sally Kennison born at the Opeleusas Poste or in the Franklin,
Ms. area? How long were the Kennisons in that St. Landry area--I've located baptismal
records indiciating that they were indeed in that area for a period of time.
Of course I'm hoping that you have documents that mentions slaves att. to the
Browns, Kennisons and Guices. I believe, but have not proved, that Melinda Jones
and Dorvice Jones were slaves att to the Browns---and Dorvice, born in Mississippi,
may have migrated to Mer Rouge with them. As you must know African Amreican research
is difficult at best---and we live to find wills, sucessions, donations, conveyance
records and personal papers that mention our enslaved ancestors!
