The will of Jeremiah, his father, gives Mordecia 1/2 of 500
acres in Marlborough Twp., Chester Co. Pa. Jeremiah's will
is on record at New Castle, Del. (His land was among that
in dispute between Penn. and Del. A map by Gilbert Cope
(1910) showing former landholders around old Kennett
Meeting shows several holdings by both Jeremiah and
Mordecia, total holdings about 1250 a. Also shows holdings
by William CLOUD, (J Father?) just adjacent to Jeremiah's
land. Also a couple smaller plots right on the Penn/Del.
line owned by J. W. CLOUD?? Abigail (Mordecia,s wife KC)
had been married before also. Her maiden name was JOHNS.
Jan Clouds (CFJ) records indicate name to be JOHNSON and
not Baily, however the Johns could just be a shortened
Johnson. KC

!2. Page 22 of Baily book (see below) Reads as follows:
"Mordecia & brother, Jeremiah received 500 acres of land in
the northeastern part of Marlborough Twp. as provided in a
will by their father, Jeremiah Sr. dated 20 Feb 1715/16.
Jeremiah Sr. had purchased it from his brother, Joseph, on
1 Dec 1703.... Jeremiah Jr. obtained 232 acres of this and
purchased 304 adjoining acres. In his will, dated 19 Feb
1747/8 and proved 7 days later, he gave 230 acres to his
son Jeremiah III; 200 acres to son William; 200 acres at
Chichester to son Mordecia (which he had inherited from his
brother Daniel); 200 farm acres to grandson, Joel (son of
Joel, deceased) on which the father had lived. The will of
Ann Cloud, widow of Jeremiah, was proved 30 Aug 1774."
Page 24 read as follows: "At Newark MM, 7 Jul 1738,
Mordecia Cloud and Abigail Baily declared their intentions
of marriage. All matters being satisfactory they were
married 30 Sep1738, at Kennet Mtg. Mordecia Cloud was a
brother of Jeremiah Cloud, who married Ann Baily, and by
his first wife, Sarah Chads, sister of John Chads, of
Chads' Ford, had several children. He was Abigail's third
husband and it appears she had three children by each.
Mordecia Cloud died in August 1745 and by will devised to
his wife a plantation of 200 acres on the east side of the
road from Trimble's mill to Marlborough Street, during
life, after which it was to become her son Abner's: also a
plantation of 350 acres on the west side of the same road
until son Mordecia became of age...Abigail Cloud's will is
dated 12 May 1757, and proved 15 Jan 1759, in which she
mentions her children....(from 1st, 2nd marriages)...and
Abner, Joseph and Abigail Cloud. Abner's son, Joseph, born
27 Aug 1770, died 3 Jul 1845, was Chief smelter and refiner

!5. Cloud, William, of Calne, in Wiltshire, England,
purchased land 7 Oct 1682, which was afterwards laid out in
Concord Township. The will of William Cloud, of Concord
"being aged and well stricken in years" was proved in 1702,
in which he mentions his sons, William, Jeremiah, Joseph,
John and Robert. Of these Joseph came over as a servant to
John Bezer, and received his 50 acres of land in Calne
Township, where he was living in 1709. John, William and
Jeremiah resided on Naaman's Creek for some time. William
Jr. was living in Calne in 1715 and died there in 1720. His
eldest son, Joseph, was there in 1719, but probably at
Pextang after this (Paxtan Twp. is now in Dauphine Co.,
near Harrisburg, it was part of Lancaster Co. when it was
formed in 1729 and then became Dauphine Co. when it was
formed). Joseph Sr. married Mary MOORE, widow of Richard,
and mother of Thomas and John Moore. He died in 1739.
Jeremiah Cloud died at Naaman's Creek, leaving children
Jeremiah Jr., -> Mordecia, Daniel and others, of whom the
first (Jeremiah Jr.). settled in the eastern part of East
Marlborough (now Ppcopson) Township. Jeremiah Jr. married
Ann BAILEY about 1710, and had children Elizabeth, Joel,
William, Jeremiah III, Benjamin, Mordecia and Rachel.

leaving children, Mordecia (Jr.?), Abner, Betty (married
William Baily), Sarah, Susannah (Married ----- DOUGHERTY
