I cannoe even hold a candle to him, with my limited brain capacity. He was the principal interpreter for the Spanish government in the late 18th century. Historians give him credit for having influenced the southern Indians more than any other white man.The University of Alabama has retrieved his records from the Spanish Archives and give him credit for having been fluent in all southern Indian languages and also in English, French, and Spanish. He was a surveyor and taught one of his sons, William Folsom, the trade. William received a land grant in Louisiana from the Spanish in 1806, 3 years after the LA Purchase.
