64. Robert Evans
(1) was born about 1701 in Prince George
Co., VA. Robert Evans [3524.9.4.2] was identified in a lawsuit in which his
children and others were deposed over a period of 30 years. Maria, an Indian
unlawfully held in slavery, sued his daughter Mary Moore for her freedom.
Batte and William Evans and Martha Stokes were living in South Carolina 10 March
1814 when they testified and a deposition of Joshua Wynne of Dinwiddie County
mentioned Thomas Evans. Jeremiah Walthall testified that after the death of Robert
Evans, slaves descended to Molly Moore, Robert Evans, Batte Evans, Patsy Evans,
Betty Evans, and John Tucker. These depositions referred to Capt. John Evans

in Dinwiddie Co., VA. Served in Revolutionary War in the state of Virginia
under Capt
Alexander Rose in Col Buckners and Col Hendricks regiment. Declaration
was made in Edgefield County, SC on Oct 2, 1821. Resided on Turkey
Creek in Edgefield Co. He enlisted in Dinwiddie Co. VA under Capt John
Jones and was discharged in Middlebrook, NJ; was in battles of Trenton
and Princeton. His affidavit was signed by William Evans of Edgefield
Dist.

Batte Evans [3524.9.4.2.4] (Oct. 1758 - May 1828) married Tempie Ellis (c.1760-1825)
in 1783. They reared six children in Edgefield District, South Carolina. (From

[3524.9.4.2.5] married G. Moore. A British mercantile claim stated that she married
G. Moore in 1783 and moved to Prince Edward County. By 1803 she was fiscally
